Fundraising for computer equipment and toilet facilities

24 April, 2016 By //  by Nitocris Leave a Comment

it-equiptment-neededWe’ve set up a crowdfunding campaign at Indiegogo and we need your help. We are fundraising to provide an ICT suite and toilet facilities for a primary school in Jamaica. Please help us.

From the ages of 6 to 11, education in Jamaica is compulsory and free. However due to the burden of debt that Jamaica has carried for decades, schools are woefully underfunded and under-resourced.

Most children in Jamaica will not see a computer until they go on to secondary education which is not free. This means that some parents can’t afford to send their children to school after the age of 11.

In the past, we’ve donated to various charities to sponsor a child’s education or to send supplies to Jamaican schools but now we’ve adopted one registered charity whose aims of supporting schools in Jamaica match with our own.

Grove Mountain is that charity. If you watch the video above you will see how that charity started. Aaron is truly an inspirational young man. We’ve watched Grove Mountain grow from shipping books to becoming a registered charity and we support it 100%.

Our Goal

Our goal is to raise $8,500 to provide IT equipment and toilet facilities.

The Wait-a-Bit All Age Primary School in Jamaica’s rural Parish of Trelawney has used local support to build a new classroom to house their IT suite. The suite will allow students to be trained in basic IT before getting to secondary school.

The school educates 500 students aged between 4 and 11 years old. The funds raised will buy computers, printers, scanners and the appropriate software packages.

toilet-facilities-trelawnyWe are also raising much-needed funds to provide male and female bathroom facilities. At the moment, children are having to use unhygienic pit toilets (holes dug into the ground). This is not only unhealthy it is also a demoralising experience.

The funds raised from this campaign will build proper bathroom facilities for the school equipped with toilets, sinks, mirrors and a sanitary way of passing sewage.

Ways You Can Help

Please Make a Contribution Today!  Your donation will be much appreciated.

Please tell everybody you know about our campaign: your family, co-workers, friends.  Ask them to tell everybody they know! Post our campaign on your own website, Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites.

This is our campaign challenge but you can support also Grove Mountain independently from this campaign.
